LONG BIO

Led by guitarist and composer Dr. Ryan Anthony Picone, the Ryan Picone Quartet has become a creative force in the Twin Cities’ jazz scene, blending deep tradition with a modern, global sensibility. A devoted acolyte of the celebrated guitarist Stéphane Wrembel, Ryan’s music is rooted in the spirit of Django Reinhardt, yet it ventures to other musical landscapes. The quartet’s sound reflects a tapestry of Ryan’s various influences — from Rumba Flamenca, Choro, and Cuban music to Indian Classical, Post-Minimalist, and Classical traditions — each woven seamlessly into the fabric of the quartet’s musical identity.

Currently, the Quartet is at work on its second album, slated for release in early Fall 2026, continuing to explore new intersections between jazz, world music, and modern composition. The Ryan Picone Quartet Consists of members Tessa Nichols-Meade (Violin), Ian Stenlund (Rhythm Guitar) and Matt Blake (Standup Bass).

“Swinging, sensual, moody, rousing — Ryan Picone Quartet’s music follows the trail of Django Reinhardt’s Gypsy jazz. Listening to these tracks, you can almost smell the campfire smoke and see the nighttime lights of Paris burning on the horizon. Bon voyage!” – Michael Dregni, Author
